Agfa Healthcare called on Namahn to overhaul the user interface of a digital image processing and management product. It needed a complete redesign to make sure it matched the radiographers’ workflow.

Understand
We observed radiographers at work to gain an in-depth insight into their habits and needs; we also e-mailed questions to a broad audience for additional insights. We then used the requirements collected during the field study to write scenarios describing future interaction flows.

Explore
We explored design alternatives using low-fidelity sketches. We verified the main design principles by applying the conceptual design to the scenarios.

We refined the conceptual user interface design through iterations and adding more concrete, realistic data and controls.

We conducted usability tests with 40 radiographers in 10 hospitals in Europe and the US using detailed mock-up screens presented in typical workflow order.

Define
We created an elaborate specification document of over 1000 pages taking into account requirements from US FDA regulations. We also wrote a summary for developers, including user interface patterns and guidelines, based on the full specification.
